Women's activewear is the fastest-growing segment in the global gym wear market. Leggings, sports bras, gym sets, and training tops account for a significant proportion of the sourcing requests coming into Sialkot manufacturers in 2026.
But women's gym wear is not simply men's gym wear made smaller. The fit requirements, fabric specifications, and quality expectations are different — and a manufacturer who does not understand those differences will deliver a product that does not work for your customer, regardless of how good it looks in sampling.
What Makes Women's Gym Wear Different to Manufacture
The primary differences are fit complexity and fabric performance requirements. Women's leggings, for example, require a precise understanding of rise (high, mid, or low), waistband construction, gusset shape, and fabric opacity. Each of these affects whether the product is wearable in a real gym environment.
Sports bras are even more technically demanding. Support level, strap construction, band width, and underwire (or lack of it) all affect fit and function. A manufacturer who primarily makes tracksuits and hoodies does not automatically have the technical pattern-making capability for a well-fitting sports bra.
When briefing a manufacturer on women's gym wear, ask specifically about their experience with the product type you need. Not just 'do you make women's activewear' — but 'do you make high-rise leggings with a squat-proof fabric' or 'do you make medium-support sports bras with removable cups'.
Fabric for Women's Gym Wear — What Works
The most common fabric for women's leggings and gym sets is a polyester-spandex blend, typically 80/20 or 75/25. The spandex percentage affects stretch recovery — higher spandex means better shape retention across repeated use and washing.
Opacity is a critical quality check for leggings specifically. Fabric that is opaque when standing but sheers out during a squat is one of the most common complaints in women's activewear. This should be tested explicitly during sampling — not assumed.
For sports bras and fitted tops, moisture-wicking performance matters alongside stretch. The fabric should pull sweat away from the skin quickly and dry without becoming heavy or clingy. Ask your manufacturer for fabric performance data or test swatches before committing to bulk.
Sizing for International Markets
Women's sizing varies significantly between markets. A size M in the USA is not the same as a size M in the UK or Germany. For brands selling into multiple markets, this needs to be addressed in your size spec before sampling — not after bulk arrives.
The right approach is to specify your target body measurements (bust, waist, hip) for each size, not just garment measurements. A good manufacturer will then grade your pattern against those measurements and send you a size set sample so you can verify grading accuracy before approving bulk.
